  • Real-life Spider-Man webshooter uses a coil gun

    Gear | Video
Just like Spider-Man's "real" webshooter, this one is worn on the wrist, and fired by pressing on a button. It features an aiming laser and LEDs to indicate its operational status. The brass-tipped mini-harpoon is shot from a tiny coil gun, fire it, and retract the line on the harpoon.

116MPH Honda Sets New Record For Fastest
    Car | Other

This is Honda's Mean Mower, the new world record holder for fastest lawnmower, at 116.57MPH.
"To claim the record, the lawnmower had to run through a 100-meter speed trap, and it had to make two passes in opposite directions within an hour with the average taken between them.
The Mean Mower is based on a Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor that's been modified by British Touring Car Championship squad Team Dynamics. It has a newly fabricated chassis from 4130 chromoly steel and packs a 1.0-liter engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm motorcycle with a six-speed sequential gearbox. The engine produces 109 horsepower and 71 pound-feet of torque - enough power to reach 60 mph in around four seconds. The suspension and wheels come from an ATV, and the cutter deck has been remade in fiberglass. The grass bag holds the fuel tank, oil cooler and secondary radiator. The engine no longer actually cuts grass. Instead, the blade is driven by two electric motors"

The Humor Research Lab team, helmed by Adrian Ward and Caleb Warren, created the Humor Algorithm (HA) to rank the 50 funniest cities in America – the most comprehensive analysis of humorous cities ever attempted.
Over a nine-month period, the team collected extensive data for the project. First, they mined the Internet and the comedy industry for a variety of objective measures:
Frequency of visits to Cheezburger comedy websites, such as Lolcats and FAIL Blog
Number of comedy clubs per square mile in each city
Traveling comedians’ ratings of each city’s comedy-club audiences
Number of famous comedians born in each city, divided by city population
Number of famous funny tweeters living in each city, divided by city population
Number of comedy radio stations available in each city
Frequency of humor-related web searches originating in each city
Then, the team conducted an extensive survey with more than 900 residents from the top ten cities determined by the objective measures above

The Man Behind The Mountain - An Intimate Look at American Folk Artist Leonard Knight

By Ben on Mon Apr 21 2014 |
    Gear | Video
Salvation Mountain is known around the world as a burst of color in the desert outside Niland, California, on the Mexican border. A one-man monument built over three decades piece by piece; it is a gradual accruement of hope, love and joy in physical form.
Less is known about the man who built it, Leonard Knight, mostly because that's the way he liked it. An unassuming man, he preferred to let his mountain speak for itself. It did just that, in bright, bold colors and optimistic messages.
