China Opens Seperate Walking Lane For People
Taking a cue from an American experiment, the Chinese city of Chongqing has created a smartphone sidewalk lane for people who are using their cell phones.
"The special 50-metre route was mapped out in the Chinese city of Chongqing and at first seemed as if they was intended to make the journey of smartphone users easier.
But Nong Cheng, who works for area managers the Meixin Group, confirmed the lanes were meant to be ironic and remind people it's dangerous to tweet while walking the street.
'There are lots of elderly people and children in our street, and walking with your cellphone may cause unnecessary collisions here,' she said
Nong said the idea came from a similar stretch of pavement in Washington, DC, created by National Geographic Television in July as part of a behavior experiment.
National Geographic has divided a block-long sidewalk into two sections; one for cell phone users and the other for those not using a cell phone in downtown Washington, Thursday, July 17, 2014

MIT researchers have developed an algorithm for bounding that they've successfully implemented in a robotic cheetah.   The key to the bounding algorithm is in programming each of the robot's legs to exert a certain amount of force in the split second during which it hits the ground, in order to maintain a given speed: In general, the faster the desired speed, the more force must be applied to propel the robot forward. In experiments the robot sprinted up to 10 mph and MIT researchers estimate the robot may eventually reach speeds of up to 30 mph.
MIT's robot cheetah might be limited to a top speed of about ten miles per hour in its current form, but its creators based its unique leg mechanisms on an actual cheetah so eventually this robot should achieve some impressive speeds—and jumping capabilities.
