    Photographer Captures Flipped Iceberg in
    Pic   /   Comments
Photographer Alex Cornell witnessed a massive iceberg flip, revealing a strangely translucent blue underside that’s completely free of snow and debris.
"Icebergs are notorious for keeping around 90 per cent of their bulk hidden beneath the surface of the sea. While this makes them far more dangerous to shipping than they appear, it does mean they’re extremely stable, and unlikely to wobble about. Yet even mountain-sized icebergs weighing hundreds of millions of tonnes have been known to flip over, creating tsunamis capable of swamping nearby vessels.
The risk is highest just after the birth of an iceberg from the edge of a glacier. As it breaks away, the iceberg tumbles off into the ocean, its irregular shape leading to the berg swaying or even flipping right over as gravity seeks to bring most of its weight beneath the sea surface. According to research published in 2011 by Prof Justin Burton and colleagues of the University of Chicago, the resulting motion can release as much energy as an atomic bomb

    Know Your Enemy Xenomorph
    Post   /   Comments
'Know Your Enemy: Xenomorph' by  illustrator Ryan Brinkerhoff of Bandito Design Co.
"The design process started with loose sketches. I wanted the design to fit in with the 80s vision of the future, so that meant 45 degree angles! Notched out corners on everything! The content I decided to include consisted of weapons, xeno life-cycle, and xeno physiology. This poster is intended to resemble something that Weyland-Yutani would pass out to the Colonial Marines as preparation for their mission. After all, it was a little more to handle than your average bug hunt."

Enjoy the stunning beauty of the Irish landscape around Sligo and Mullaghmore with selected aerial views. Coinciding with the 3rd annual conference in 'Surfing Medicine' and jetski rescue training with the 'Irish Tow Surf Rescue', there were plenty of motifs waiting to be discovered on this part of the wild atlantic way.

    The United States of Alcohol

"The United States of Alcohol" by vinepair.
"As has often been said before, what makes the United States so interesting and incredible is that while we’re one unified country, when you really boil us down, we’re also a nation of several smaller countries, with different tastes, attitudes and opinions. While we often break down the country in terms of our politics, the same can happen when you look at what we like to drink. Here’s what a map of our country might look like if our drinking preferences were what divided us, instead of politics."

The Pieter Schelte is the world's largest ship. But this outsized sea giant isn't a supertanker, nor a container carrier. The ship - which set sail last weekend from South Korea to the Dutch port of Rotterdam - is an oil support vessel, designed to install or move oil rigs in the deep ocean, lay oil pipelines, or even help construct bridges.
The Pieter Schelte is 382 metres (1,260 ft) long, and 124 metres (406 ft) wide. The vessel is essentially a giant catamaran, based on the concept of joining two large tankers rigidly, with a slot at the bows to lift platforms in one piece.
