Photographer Mihaela Noroc Provides a Rare Look at Women in North
    Gear  |  Pic
This  project is called “The Atlas Of Beauty”, by Romanian Photographer Mihaela Noroc(Facebook, Instagram). Her subjects range from waitresses to students to factory workers, providing a unique look at some of the 24.9 million people who live in the country.
"North Korean women are not familiar with global trends, but this doesn’t mean that they are not preoccupied with their look. They are, definitely! They have a passion for high heels and usually wear classic outfits, always accompanied by a pin, on the chest, representing one of the country’s leaders. During celebrations and other special occasions, they wear traditional colorful outfits."

Jessica Harrison s Latest Series of Altered Ceramic
    Gear  |  Projects
Scotland based artist Jessica Harrison, we featured on our blog before, her altered ceramic sculptures of antique figures are at first surprising. Recently, she exhibited her painted ladies at Banksy’s Dismaland park in England and the “SWEET 18” exhibition at Kasteel d’Ursel in Belgium. Her ladies explore the deformity of the body through body modification and costume. For her 2014 series “Broken”, Harrison featured ready-made, found ceramics that were modified and “broken”. Where the figures were once solid and brittle, by Harrison’s treatment they became instantly fragile, exposed and fleshy. It’s an ongoing investigation into the relationship between the physical and what we cannot see inside of us. She will exhibit next in “Ceramix”, a group exhibition about the use of ceramics by artists of the 20th and 21st century, opening October 16th at Bonnefantenmuseum, Netherlands.

Dutch scientists have created the world’s biggest human-made wave generator. The Delta Flume can send waves 5 meters high, crashing down a 300-meter long, 9.5-meter deep channel. The monster machine wasn't designed to help surfers catch bigger waves, but to enhance safety against floods in the Netherlands, where half of the country’s population lives below sea level on reclaimed land.

The Evolution of the Batmobile From 1941 to 2016
    Gear  |  Pic
Since its arrival in 1966, the iconic Batmobile has had many incarnations with each decade bringing its own take on this iconic supercar.
In the 1930s and early 40s Batman’s car barely featured in the comic strips. When it was eventually drawn, it was just a bulk standard red convertible with elongated wings and a bat emblem on the front. Pretty boring when you consider what came later!
In fact, it was not until the 1966 TV series that the first real Batmobile appeared. This initial version was actually a converted Ford Lincoln Futura, which was a concept car that never made onto the forecourt. That said, it only took three weeks for the car to be transformed into a vehicle that was fit for a superhero and the rest as they say, is history. [ bookmygarage ]

Sponge Bikini Cleans the Ocean While You Swim
    Gear  |  Tech
In the future, you could help clean up the oceans just by playing in your bikini. The Sponge Suit is made of an absorbent material that fits inside a 3D printed shell. The fabric absorbs pollutants in the water and seals them away from the skin. It releases the contaminants only when subjected to extreme heat. The designers explain:
"This material has multi-model porosity (micro/mezzo/macro porous) that allows it to be a light yet strong absorber with its undulating texture (visible through Electron Microscope). Absorbing everything but water, the material is a powerful tool for water and contaminant separation. The super-porous nature allows the Sponge to absorb in high capacity, up to 25 times of its own weight depending on the density of the substance absorbed. The Sponge does not release the absorbed materials unless it is heated in high temperatures (1,000 degrees Celsius) to re-obtain its original liquid form. This property allows the Sponge to be recyclable as the liquid form is ready to be reshaped having been separated from its contaminants."
