The monotonous flatness of the Western Australian outback is interrupted by the tall antennae of the Australian SKA Pathfinder Radio Telescope. The night sky is majestically dark with no man-made lights for as far as eye would see. The dishes are slowly turning following the path of stars. Sounds like stargazer's haven... Alex Cherney filmed the CSIRO ASKAP radio telescope under the night time sky.
The ASKAP is the next generation radio-telescope with 36 antennae that work together as one with a total collecting area of approximately 4,000 square metres. When completed the The ASKAP telescope will be able to detect hundreds of times more galaxies than current radio telescopes, helping us to understand how galaxies have formed and evolved.
    Gear  |  Video
The film was written and directed by Dan Sumich and is a homage to the classic action films from the 1970s through to the 1990s, with a soundtrack by the legendary heavy metal vocalist Steve Grimmett. An ordinary looking guy wakes up one morning feeling the worse for wear and realises he’s run out of milk. As he drags himself out of the house to go and buy some, an extraordinary sequence of events draws him into a journey of mayhem on the streets of San Francisco.

    Hop The Following Suitcase
    Gear  |  Tech

The Hop is a robotic suitcase that lets you go hands-free at the airport via the Bluetooth connectivity in your phone, the suitcase can follow its owner all on its own.
"Hop is a suitcase that follows the user. Represents the next generation of luggage, the following. The suitcase contains three receivers that are able to receive, identify and triangulate different signals coming from the user's cell phone. A microcontroller interprets these signals calculating the phone's position regarding to the suitcase. The same microcontroller operates a caterpillar system based on compressed air, which follows the user at a constant distance. If the signal is lost the user is alerted by the vibration of the phone and suitcase locks itself. The bags can be programmed to follow one to another or are controlled jointly by the staff that handles the baggage at airports or stations."
