    Brainflight Using thoughts to control airplanes
    Gear  |  Projects
    Brainflight is a project by Technische Universität München, researching brain-controlled flight.
    "Seven subjects took part in the flight simulator tests. They had varying levels of flight experience, including one person without any practical cockpit experience whatsoever. The accuracy with which the test subjects stayed on course by merely thinking commands would have sufficed, in part, to fulfill the requirements of a flying license test. “One of the subjects was able to follow eight out of ten target headings with a deviation of only 10 degrees,” reports Fricke. Several of the subjects also managed the landing approach under poor visibility. One test pilot even landed within only few meters of the centerline"

    You Can Buy an Actual Viking Ship at Denmark s Viking Ship
    Gear  |  News
    After touring a museum, what do you think is the best gift shop souvenir to commemorate your visit? A post card? A magnet? Now the public can buy various kinds of authentic handcrafted Viking ships online through the Viking Ship Museum's webshop. Part of the facility features a workshop where modern day craftsmen use authentic ancient tools and techniques to build copies of Viking boats. The boat pictured above is actually partly made using authentic Viking tools, but modern equipment as well, so that it can be more easily mass-produced. As a result, the Trýbekkur, as it's called, will only cost you just north of $24,500.
    "The Viking Ship Museum is much more than just a museum - it's a working, living museum, where craftsmen, using authentic tools, have re-discovered the ancient skills of how the Vikings built these ultimate war machines."

    Nine-year-old Sabre Norris from New South Wales, Australia just landed her first 540 on vert. Here's the story in her own words:
     "My skating all started because I wasn't allowed to get a bike because we don't have a garage. So my mum bought us skateboards instead. I started from rolling down my dad's business car park. I've been skating for about 3 years. My favorite trick is a 540. I watched Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins do it on the internet, and I just had to do it. That was my 75th attempt of the day. Every time I tried one and didn't land it I put a rock on the table. It ended up being my 75th rock. I was frothing. I did some 720s too. Not proper. I called it 540 to revert to splat. I didn't cry though. My goal is to do 100 of them before this Saturday. I'm up to 75. I still can't ride a bike, but I can do a 540."

    Satsuki Ohata's Fondue Slipper uses higher-temp, harder-wearing PVC to produce extremely custom-fit slippers. Cool idea! Right now, they're a work of art;
    "*This prototype is using PVC, which hardens at 200~300 degrees Celsius (392~572 degrees Fahrenheit). This time I used my foot mold instead of my foot. I am currently developing a kit which allows Fondue Slipper to make at home. Soon this new kit will be complete and you will be able to make your own Fondue Slipper that fits your foot perfectly. You can wear Fondue Slipper both inside and outside. It can also be used as slipper by folding the heel, or you can wear it without folding the heel if you want to run."

    Former neighbor's daughter gets a surprise Lamborghini Aventador ride from her high school followed by a visit to Times Square. The reactions were priceless. Allen Wong writes
    "I've had this neighbor for many years when I was poor and living in a poorer neighborhood. I became successful and moved to Florida a few years ago. I then came back to my hometown for a visit, and I brought my Lamborghini with me. I saw an opportunity to make the kid's day much brighter, and I took it."
    Leon on Wheels
    Gear  |  Video

    At just over three weeks of age, little Leon Trotsky has more spunk than most who are ten times his size and he has already beaten the odds not once but twice. Being born a ‘farm’ pig, Leon was destined for the plate, but then an accident caused by his injured mum (which claimed the life of two of his siblings) saw Leon up against it again. With his right hind femur both broken and dislocated, plus an injured hock and ligament damage on the other side, things could not have looked much grimmer for the wee chap. But no one told the plucky little Leon that these obstacles of his world should hold him back. His life was precious, and thankfully this was recognised by a kind hearted soul who sought a better outcome for Leon.
