Ikea Arild Chair

Ikea is slowly sneaking in more and more higher-end pieces ¡ª like this new Arild Chair ($560). While we're digging the clean white version, the chair also comes in black and dark brown for more classic decors. A great modern addition for any modest budget, for sure.

Hahn Sofa

Normally we try to stay away from furniture that's overly curvy, but we fell in love with this one as soon as we saw it. The Hahn Sofa ($1,700) was designed by Vladimir Kagan for Room & Board, and captures his love of organic shapes. Available in right and left versions, and in a myriad of colors, the couch is covered in micro-suede fabric and has a backrest that serves about two-thirds of the couch. While it won't look right in every home, it's just begging for us to make a place for it.

Armedchair

If you've fallen into a rut of watching your favorite DVDs over and over, take a minute and think: What would the experience be like if you had a motion simulator to add to the experience? With Armedchair (starts at $12,000) you can have the answer to that question. The high-tech chair uses a motion controller, advanced software, movie motion control codes, and powerful actuators to bounce you around depending on the action onscreen. Sumo Omni Chair

Array Home | Seating
We're always fans of products that have that rare mix of versatility and good looks, and we think this is one of them. The Omni Chair by Sumo Lounge ($130) is essentially a beanbag chair, but with a unique oversize design. This Uncrate editor has been testing one for about two weeks now, and whether we're using it like a chair, platform, or floor pillow, it's remained comfortable ¡ª but don't, I repeat don't have a bean bag fight with one ¡ª it's a little too heavy.

Everyone loves a good nap, and we doubt you'll need one of these things just to catch a quick one. But if you're so inclined to have one of these egg-like cocoons in your crib, its ergonomic mattress will surely aid in an afternoon siesta. The Napshell ($TBA) was designed by seven architecture students for indoor or outdoor use, and can also be ordered with different modules like doors and a dobly-surround system.

Flap Sofa

Although this is another one for most of us to stow away in that ¡°If I win the lottery¡± file ¡ª come on, you know you have one ¡ª it¡¯s sheer beauty is worthy of mention. The Flap Sofa by Francesco Binfare ($20,565) is a winding, leather sofa-ish piece of furniture that features a series of adjustable backs, armrests, headrests and movable front supports that can be adjusted into pretty much whatever you want/need at the moment. This thing would so go in that lounge/bar area of our castl¡err, dream home.

Franklin Bench Chair

It's hard having Eames taste and K Mart income. We shed a tear every time we stroll through Design Within Reach because we know we don't have the dough to leave with something. Luckily, Target comes through every now and then with a piece that rivals any classic and is a much better match for our wallet. The Franklin Bench Chair ($170) has a great retro vibe, powder coated steel frame and legs, and is covered in black vinyl and trimmed with white piping. You can even buy two and use the included connecting rods to make a loveseat.

OFFI Tiki Stool

Array Home | Seating
When we first saw these stools, they instantly reminded us of a set designed by Phillip Starck that we've used around the office. While those offered the utility of storage inside the stool, the OFFI Tiki Stool ($40) offers a cool little shelf/storage area/handle/whatever you make of it. We like our furniture to be versatile, and this stool certainly gets the job done.

Flight Recliner

Array Home | Seating
It has got to be super tough to design a recliner that doesn't actually look like a recliner. Jeffrey Bernett somehow did it. The award-winning designer used his experience from designing ergonomic in-flight seating for Northwest Airlines to come up with the stellar Flight Recliner ($2,000-$2,700). The chair offers all of the comfort of a regular recliner, but quickly folds upright to go back to its sleek look. It's available in leather or wool with a great stainless steel sleigh base.

It's terribly hard sometimes to try and match all of the wood finishes in your home. If you don't feel like wasting time trying to decide if "espresso" is close enough to "chocolate" when it comes to buying new furniture, just take the easy way out and get stainless steel. The Offi Jim Stool ($200-$220), available in 24" and 30" sizes, will match just about anything, and will look especially slick at a kitchen island.
