OFFI Tiki Stool

When we first saw these stools, they instantly reminded us of a set designed by Phillip Starck that we've used around the office. While those offered the utility of storage inside the stool, the OFFI Tiki Stool ($40) offers a cool little shelf/storage area/handle/whatever you make of it. We like our furniture to be versatile, and this stool certainly gets the job done.

120 soft round cushions. Sounds comfy, doesn't it? Well, that's the structure behind the Feel Seating System from Animi Causa ($900 - $2950). It's like a gigantic beanbag, only better. With as many possible configurations and forms as you can come up with, you have no excuse being uncomfotable any more.

Flight Recliner

It has got to be super tough to design a recliner that doesn't actually look like a recliner. Jeffrey Bernett somehow did it. The award-winning designer used his experience from designing ergonomic in-flight seating for Northwest Airlines to come up with the stellar Flight Recliner ($2,000-$2,700). The chair offers all of the comfort of a regular recliner, but quickly folds upright to go back to its sleek look. It's available in leather or wool with a great stainless steel sleigh base.

It's terribly hard sometimes to try and match all of the wood finishes in your home. If you don't feel like wasting time trying to decide if "espresso" is close enough to "chocolate" when it comes to buying new furniture, just take the easy way out and get stainless steel. The Offi Jim Stool ($200-$220), available in 24" and 30" sizes, will match just about anything, and will look especially slick at a kitchen island.

When it comes to seating surfaces, you don¡¯t need upholstery to be comfortable. Take the Buttercup Chair from Blu Dot ($650), for example. The chair features a cut-out seat with a bucket shape to cup your back, and a swiveling recline motion. Oh, and it comes in two colors ¡ª ebony stain on ash veneer or white oak with whitened finish, making sure it will fit right into the room you put it in.

Walk Dont Walk Chair

It¡¯s not often that we get to feature an item that is much an ingenious piece of pop-culture art as it is anything else, but this is one of those times. The Road Tested Chair ($3,700) is handmade from two working NYC Walk/Don¡¯t Walk signs. The frame is made out of reconfigured, customized steel street sign brackets, and the seat has been outfitted with a felt suspension for cushioning. Honestly, a museum-quality piece.

When we first saw pictures of this chair, we were almost entirely sure we¡¯d have to have one. Designed for Tendo Japan in 1961, the Kashiwado Chair by Isamu Kenmochi ($9,950) has become a true design icon, yet remains rather difficult to find. Made of polished cedar, there is no question that the chair will last a lifetime ¡ª just ask the famous Sumo wrestler Kashiwado for whom the chair was created.

La-Z-Boy Redford Chair

This ain't your dad's La-Z-Boy Chair ($TBA). The company got with the times recently and began offering chairs that men under 50 would actually consider buying. Pricing wasn't immediately available, but I'll guarantee you this thing is a lot less than you'd expect. It's available in 12 hues, but our favorite by far is the red. A recliner that doesn't look like a recliner. Perfect.

Certain items in life are worth paying for, as they will never go out of style. A well-tailored suit. An elegant timepiece. The Barcelona Chair ($3,890). First shown to the world at the International Exposition in 1929, the chair continues to this day to be a cornerstone of great design, exuding class and elegance like no other piece of furniture. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but what else can you spend this kind of money on and be virtually guaranteed that it will still be in style long after you¡¯re gone?
