FLKS - a flexible workplace

Dutch designers Kapteinbolt has created a flexible workplace, called FLKS. The furniture features a desk and chair that fold out from two hinged sheets. Design firm Kapteinbolt says:
"We like to introduce FLKS (flex), a flexible workplace. Just open the panels unfold the table and the chair and put the plug in for light. The legs from the table and the chair are provided with special designed joints, pull and turn 90°.

The dimensions of the panels are a combination of sizes according to the Modulor of Le Corbusier in combination with the functional human sizes of today. This design is characterized by simplicity, clarity, freedom and space. Freedom in using and in arranging this workplace.

The dialogue between the space and furniture, but also the spaciousness of the furniture itself is an important fact. By bringing furniture back to the essence you can create space. The FLKS provides a definition of space. By giving cover to the back and to one of the sides, the FLKS creates a private and comfortable workplace."

This project calls "Mercado Negro", by Los Angeles-based artist Ramon Coronado.
"I took it upon myself to take a shopping cart and make a statement with it. I reclaimed LA's iconic shopping cart and created furniture for kids to enjoy in these urban Los Angeles areas. The project is a criticism of the scarcity of recreational functions for kids growing up in a dense city like Los Angeles."

Table Transforms into a Playhouse

Home  |  Furniture
Ingrid Brandth's Daily Shelter transforms into a small playhouse. I like it!
"Feeling safe is not necessarily being safe. We feel protected and secure in surroundings that are familiar to us, where we can control the space around us - physically or psychologically.
The Daily Shelter is a table inspired by my grandfather Sigvald Andreas Brandth. He was an inventive designer who based many of his ideas on excitement, humor and secrets. And just like his many designs, this table has a hidden story.
At first glance it looks like an ordinary table. But for the one who knows its secret, it can be transformed into a shelter where one can hide from scary sounds, ghosts or family members. Just like a snail feels safe in its house.

'Rewrite' Workstation by GamFratesi

'Rewrite' is a prototype desk by Copenhagen designers GamFratesi. You will hide in cave-like workstation while you woking.
"The idea behind Rewrite began as a study of the desktop and especially an atmosphere and feeling we believe is needed even in the middle of an accelerating communication and technology. Rewrite is thought of as a kind of isolating working bubble, that can work as a satellite desk anywhere one can feel the need of concentration and shielding – in open space offices, public spaces or at home. With its rounded shape it can be placed freely as dots in a room. A private base in the group without being a denial of it, but an addition to it causing an alternative.
In our design of the desktop Rewrite we have worked on creating a meeting between something well known and something surprising. The table is therefore traditional in its form and material, but when the big screen is added, both proportions and historical references are brought out of balance. In the table functional elements have been integrated as a white lacquered metal box, which is attached under the table in order to hide cables and transformers, and the cable exit in the tabletop is white lacquered too.
The screen is upholstered and covered with textile because of its visual and acoustic characteristics. It has a cave-like shape and creates a secure and intimate sphere, which partially closes out disturbing light and sounds. It has a double-sided acoustic function that protects against noise from the outside as well as from the inside. "
