    Photographer Eric J. Smith snapped this shot near Redondo Beach, California. A man on a sailboat was texting while a humpback whale surfaced. He never noticed. ABC News (warning: auto-start video) quotes him:
    "A small private sailboat maneuvered really close to the whales, and this guy on it was literally sitting in that position and never moved," Smith said. "He could have been texting his mom in the hospital for all I know, but I thought it sucked that he missed such a wonderful moment happening just two feet in front of him."

    TSA's Report on Confiscated Items in 2014

    The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has detailed the dangerous items it seized at U.S. airport security checkpoints in 2014. The number of passengers screened in 2014 — 653 million — has increased by nearly 15 million since the previous year. A whopping 2,212 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags in 2014, which marks a 22-percent increase from the year prior. The top ten airports at which the most offenders were caught are as follows:
    Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW): 120
    Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): 109
    Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX): 78
    George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH): 77
    Denver International Airport (DEN): 70
    William P. Hobby Airport (HOU): 50
    Tampa International Airport (TPA): 49
    Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL): 49
    Nashville International Airport (BNA): 48

    Mysterious Man Rides the Train with a Watermelon on His Head

    'Watermelon Brother',  a man who likes to put a watermelon on his head on Beijings's train. The Daily Telegraph reports:
    One commuter told the Beijing Morning Post he was freaked out by the man who loves to put on the hollowed-out fruit helmet and reported him to police.
    "It was so scary last night when I was on the metro,” he said.
    “This guy was just hanging around on the train wearing a watermelon mask with a beer bottle … apparently he was totally drunk.”
    "I was scared by this watermelon brother too," said another passenger. "I posted some pictures of him on Weibo.”
    Beijing Metro Police questioned the man after being alerted to his location by passengers and subway staff
