When can a man declare that he is already a man? How's this for a manhood initiation? A tribe in the Amazon forest has you put your hand into a glove that has bullet ants.
"These ants look like black, wingless wasps and their length can range between half-an-inch to an inch. The scarier thing about this bullet ant's sting is the toxins, neurotoxin and poneratoxin, which freeze the transmission of information by the nerve cells. The venom also causes uncontrollable shaking and throbbing pain that'll last for days. The scariest is, the Mawé boys don't need to get stung only once but many times more, from months to years"

Darek Fidyka, who was paralysed from the chest down in a knife attack in 2010, can now walk using a frame.
The treatment, a world first, was carried out by surgeons in Poland in collaboration with scientists in London
    .
Details of the research are published in the journal Cell Transplantation.
    How the injury was treated
    1) One of the patient's two olfactory bulbs was removed and the olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) were grown in culture
    2) 100 micro injections of OECs were made above and below the damaged area of the spinal cord
    3) Four strips of nerve tissue were placed across an 8mm gap in the spinal cord. The scientists believe the OECs acted as a pathway to stimulate the spinal cord cells to regenerate, using the nerve grafts as a bridge to cross the severed cord

You've seen it in several science fiction movies: Hibernation, or deep sleep. Nasa is backing plans to potentially put astronauts in a deep sleep during manned missions to Mars.
The proposal would see a crew 'hibernate' for up to 180 days, allowing them to make the journey of 350 million miles (560 million km) with a reduced need for food and water. The crew would be kept alive through intravenous feeding, before being woken at their destination by inhalation of a coolant gas.

From Discovery: The skeletal remains of two lovebirds were uncovered, after being locked in a romantic embrace for the past 700 years.
Archeologists found the happy couple holding hands in an earthen grave during an excavation of a "lost" chapel in Leicestershire, England, researchers reported Thursday (Sept. 18).
"We have seen similar skeletons before from Leicester where a couple has been buried together in a single grave," Vicki Score, University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) project manager, said in a statement.

"The dark, reddish, “mad honey,” known as deli bal in Turkey, contains an ingredient from rhododendron nectar called grayanotoxin — a natural neurotoxin that, even in small quantities, brings on light-headedness and sometimes, hallucinations. In the 1700s, the Black Sea region traded this potent produce with Europe, where the honey was infused with drinks to give boozers a greater high than alcohol could deliver.
When over-imbibed, however, the honey can cause low blood pressure and irregularities in the heartbeat that bring on nausea, numbness, blurred vision, fainting, potent hallucinations, seizures, and even death, in rare cases. Nowadays, cases of mad honey poisoning crop up every few years—oftentimes in travelers who have visited Turkey." [ link ]

The controversial cannibal burger has been developed by Messhead – a collaboration between London-based food creatives Miss Cakehead and Mess London chef James Thomlinson, an offbeat new promotional campaign for The Walking Dead's fifth season will give you a taste. Messhead  has developed a burger that's as close as possible in flavor to actual human flesh — without, you know, actually including any.
The final product? A burger composed of pork, veal, chicken liver, and bone marrow — though Messhead also clarifies that the taste of a real person would vary based on "age, the body part being consumed, and the method of cooking."
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can grab yourself a free bite of a human flesh burger on Tuesday 30th September from the Terminus Tavern pop-up in a secret location in East London. Non-Londoners can find the recipe for the burger on the London Mess Facebook page.

Jasmine Tridevil, a Florida massage therapist, underwent surgery to get just that. She spent close to $20,000 on the procedure.
"Tridevil told that she contacted more than 50 doctors before finding one who would give her the third breast. "It was really hard finding someone that would do it too because they're breaking the code of ethics," she said. The surgeon she found couldn't create a silicone areola, though, so she had one tattooed onto the implant, which is made from silicone and skin tissue from her stomach."

Steve Bargeron was fishing from a dock in Fort Pierce as he watched a fellow fisherman pull this creature out of the water. Steve said the massive thing was about 18 inches long and striking its own tail, so he grabbed it by its back like a lobster. Scientists think it may be some type of mantis shrimp.

This are several shots of a rare Ayam Cemani Chicken of Indonesia.  The birds are all black, every bit of them, except their blood. I love this black bird!
"Everything about it is black: plumage, beak, tongue, legs, toe nails, even its meat, bones, and organs! The only thing that is black is its blood - though it comes in a very dark shade.
They get their black coloring from a generic trait known as 'fibromelanosis'. I don't know why you'd want to eat something that's as black as a black hole, but don't ever make the mistake of slaughtering it for a quick snack, because one chicken costs around $2,500!"
Good lord, $2,500 for a single chicken?! Check out more pictures after more.

The man was boarding a Perth-bound train about 8:50am when he slipped and became stuck.
Transperth spokesman David Hynes said the man was boarding at the tail end of peak hour, but the train was still fairly busy.
"He stood in the doorway and as he was sort of taking up his position there, one leg slipped outside the door, slipped outside the gap, and he was stuck," he said.
"We alerted the driver, made sure the train didn't move.
"Then our staff who were there at the time got the passengers, and there were lots of them, off the train, and organised them to sort of rock, tilt the train backwards away from the platform so they were able to get him out and rescue him."

Reebok are certainly bringing home the bacon with their latest product - Reebok BACON.  With more and more people donning lycra and weightlifting gloves as part of the CrossFit fitness craze the sportswear giant have got in on the act too.  More famous for trainers and football boots it's certainly a new - and tasty - departure for the brand.  Reebok Bacon was launched at last month's Reebok CrossFit Games in California and even comes in a snazzy box. They claim the mega meat contains all the protein of your regulation rasher but without sweeteners, monosodium glutamate, nitrates or nitrites. Aimed at those adhering to the Paleo Diet - a regimen involving lots of meat, vegetables and fish - the product is designed to bring home a bacon that isn't actually that bad for you.
The bacon is the brainchild of ad agency Venables Bell & Partners, who said: "In sticking with Paleo recommendations, Reebok Bacon is uncured and contains no nitrates, preservatives, MSG or sweeteners.
It is not yet known whether Reebok will roll out the product for real but it was certainly a hit at the CrossFit Games.
