impress - flexible display

Array
Gear  |  Gadget
Impress is a "real" flexible interactive display, developed by Silke Hilsing. The prototype was built by foam and using pressure sensitive sensors that reacts to your movements on the screen.
"Impress is the deliverance of the touch screen from its technical stiffness, coldness and rigidity. It breaks the distance in the relationship of human and technology, because it is not any longer the user which is subjected to technology, but in this case the display itself has to cave in to the human. Impress is a chance of approach of user and technology, above all, from technology.
It is a matter of a flexible display consisting of foam and force sensors which is deformable and feels pleasantly soft. Impress works with the parameters position and time like other touch screens as well, but in addition to that, it reacts, above all, on the intensity of pressure." Watch video of it in action.

Steampunk Lamp by Michael Pusateri

Gear  |  Gadget
Steampunk Lamp by Michael Pusateri. Made of an old wooden cigar box, two 60 watt bulbs, a handful of copper wire...
"I used an old wooden cigar box, a few ceramic bulb mounts, a rheostat and few other odds and ends. I did get a little fancy and paint the ceramic mounts with textured copper paint. The wiring was trivial, but I got a chance to use an Underwriter's Knot. There's a lot more steampunk I could have thrown at it, but I like the simplicity of this. I used two 60 watt bulbs, so it can get quite bright. It's much more pleasant at a lower light level."

Andrew Salomone DIY a ski mask that doesn't hide who you are. Wow, see this photos, it is awesome, but cool! If you meet a guy with this mask when you are in skifield, what would you do? Maybe I will put up my dukes, Haha...
"It's pretty easy to wear warm clothes on just about every part of your body except for your face. As far as I can tell, the main reason that cold-weather facial attire is somewhat socially taboo is because it generally obscures the identity of the person wearing it. Despite all of the progress our society has made towards accepting and treating all people fairly, we are still yet to escape the notion that a person in a balaclava (or ski mask) is generally up to no good. The "Identity Preserving Balaclava" is my solution to the social stigma associated with the identity concealing effect of the average balaclava. Here is the method and pattern that I used to make my own "Identity Preserving Balaclava." Hopefully other people will be able to use this to liberate their cold faces from social repression! "
