Recently, the big news is the Tesla Model S($49,900+$7,500 federal tax credit) is official. It is not cheap, but today the Tesla CEO says Model S isn't really expensive. "The ownership cost of Model S, if you were to lease and then account for the much lower cost of electricity versus gasoline at a likely future cost of $4 per gallon, is similar to a gasoline car with a sticker price of about $35,000," he worte. 2009 MINI Cooper, Cooper S Convertible is Officially

Today the 2009 MINI Cooper and Cooper S Convertible are now official. They will debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Now the Germans can order them, needn't wait that long. The Mini Cooper ragtop is priced at €22,500 while the Cooper S convertible costs €4,000 more. The first MINI Convertibles begin on March 28, 2009. And what about the new MINI? They includes the new generation of four-cylinder gasoline engines with Twin-Scroll turbochargers or fully variable valve management. Engine capacity 1,598 cc, max output 118 hp (MINI Cooper Convertible) and 172 hp (MINI Cooper S Convertible). The Hermes Smart ForTwo was created to celebrate the decade anniversary of the micro car. It comes with new interior, entirely covered in Hermes leather and canvas, and several pockets are made in Hermes' style as well as umbrella which clips to the back of the seats. It is available in 10 fashionable colors, with yellow, teal, black, red, green, and Hermes' signature orange among the list of options. The base Smart ForTwo retails for around $13,990, the Hermes is expensive, it will run you about $48,564 (38,000 Euro).

The all-electric MINI! Yes, Cool! 500 all-electric MINI E will be availble in the US states of the California, New York and New Jersey starting sometime in 2009. The MINI E powed by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor fed by a high-performance rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It can hit 62 mph in 8.5 seconds, cover about 150 miles with a full charge on a current charging station in 2.5 hours. The possibility of offering the MINI E in Europe as well is currently being considered. You can see it at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 19 and 20, 2008.

2011 Chevy Volt

Today GM reveals the 2011 Chevy Volt, it is the first official plug-in hybrid Vehicle. For trips up to 40 miles, the Volt is powered only by electricity stored in its 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery. When the battery's energy is depleted, a gasoline/E85-powered engine generator seamlessly provides electricity to power the Volt's electric drive unit while simultaneously sustaining the charge of the battery. The Chevrolet Volt can be plugged either into a standard household 120v outlet or use 240v for charging. The Volt's battery to be charged in three hours on a 240v outlet or about eight hours on a 120v outlet. At a cost of about 80 cents per day (10 cents per kWh) for a full charge that will deliver up to 40 miles of electric driving. It delivers 150 horsepower, 273 lb-ft. (370 Nm) of instant torque, and a top speed of 100 miles per hour. With standard 7" touch screen vehicle information display, Bluetooth for cellular phone and USB/Bluetooth for music streaming.

Lumeneo Smera EV is Narrow Like A Motorcycle

The Lumeneo Smera(EUR 20,000 - 30,000; about $30,000-$45,000) is 2.4 metres (8 feet) long, and 80 cm (less than 3 feet) wide. It can hit a top speed of 80mph, and will take you 93 miles on one charge. The vehicle is quite narrow, and handles more like a motorcycle than a car, tilting around curves rather than turning. The wheels are powered by dual electric 20hp motors, which according to the manufacturers, will last you for 200,000 km. It is powered by a 144 volt lithium ion battery, which can be charged in a few hours. Unfortunately it just a concept now, but the SMERA line will be UE approved and available for sale from the Paris motor show, in october 2008. And good news for the French guy, customers will get a 5000 € direct refound from the French Goverment.

And a full charge can last you a good 40 miles which is more than what you expect from a half-American, half-Italian NV (neighborhood vehicle).
