How can these scanners be safe in all-day-use if they can see your bones and *inside* your body?!?

That is freakin awesome. Very strongly considering buying one.

Thankyou daniel for presenting the scientific support for your protests and fears. I have been travelling alot lately and am yet to feel violated. Just walk through the scanner no big deal. I vote keep it land of the safe! The TSA is not coming into your home and feeling you up. Yes tact is required Yes sonme reports indicate it has been neglected but this is not a reflection on the entire operation. get over it or dont fly, shame they cant scan for Paranoia

Tyler, Ok, it's like this. I could go down the Home Depot tomorrow and purchase more than enough chemicals to make something pretty nasty that would cause a whole lot of problems for a whole lot of people (which, NSA, since you are reading this, I am not actually doing... this is an example... please don't kick down my door). Or, I could go outside and take just about any sample from the soil and cultivate bacillus anthracis with not a whole lot of skill or equipment (again... an example... I am not doing this). And yet, we don't have a problem with that. We are manic about airports. It is ridiculous. This is simply a proving ground to desensitize Americans to an Orwellian future. You are eight times more likely to be killed by a cop than you are a terrorist. ::face palm:: I am not afraid. If you want to be afraid, that is a-ok by me. But you should have a separate "scaredy pants" line. Ryan

The NSA is not reading what you have to say on a blog about cool stuff and you do have a better chance of being killed by a cop than a terrorist. But cops kill because of danger, terrorists kill just because we are american, big difference just sayin. Its not about being afraid either its about protecting lives. And wouldn't you rather catch a bomber on your plane or let him get on and blow it up? Not healthy for you? So if you have a brain tumour and need an MRI, which these machines are, you're going to say no no no its going to harm my body. Does the land of the free mean bring anything and everything where ever? If its not these body scans how do we protect against terrorists and bombs?

Hey just wondering, why don't you make a pair of underwear completely covered in metallic ink? from what I see here that would be enough to hide your junk.
#9 Post by tyler, on Thu Nov 25 2010 4:15 PM
@ shaza. that [as good an idea as it sounds] would prolly wreak havoc on your traveling experience because they'll think you are tring to hide something

| @ Man I am simply pointing out the inconsistency in our risk analysis and disproportional response to perceived risk. Currently, approximately 500 million people on earth have malaria. Each year three million of those will die. Last year, greater than 33,000 people in the United States were killed in auto accidents. Five thousand people in the United States expired due to food poisonings. And yet... we move on with our lives. Risk is part of life. We drive. We eat food from unknown sources. We travel to places with malaria. Life goes on... but not in the case of the airplane. Instead, we have moved in this grossly Orwellian direction with respect to air travel (among other things). We are not safer for having the TSA out there feeling people up. Someone with the right mind could cause chaos, one way or the other. As for the NSA, they don't have the world's largest bank of supercomputers to simply play WoW on. They take in almost everything you say or do if it has anything to do with digital interface and then run that through their filters looking for hot-phrases (not unlike what I mentioned above). And finally, to answer your question about "how do we protect against terrorists and bombs?" I suggest that we start feeding the unstable regions of the world instead of bombing them. A single B-2 bomber costs 2.4 billion dollars. Think of how many meals you could provide with the cost of a single weapon of death. If you truly want long term security and peace, feed people, build schools for them and bring them out of the dark ages of extremist mythology and into the light of knowledge and life in the 21st century. | Really want to buy this, but don't live in the US... I expect those humorless assholes at the TSA will make a big deal out of this and assume that anyone wearing these is a terrorist. |

Listen up folks we have lost the ability to reason. The TSA thing is much more about making us all CONFORM to the rules than about finding real terrorists. What do you think would happen if there was a human bomb that just stepped up into the xray machine showed his bomb and detonated there?? It is going to happen or some how they will get enough savvy to get it on the plane some other way or a pilot will be the terrorist and again we will have a plane in tall building something will happen it is inevitable. But to subject ourselves and our children to such frightening actions such as we are is really psychotic. Are we so afraid? Do we fear the boogyman so much? I for one do not, and unlike the black guy from PBS I do not get nervous when there is a turban on a flight. There is little I can actually control in this world but the thoughts in my head I can control and I do a pretty good job of that. try to relax dont worry too much and remember NOBODY is getting out of here alive, nobody not even you. One day and not too long from now every single person on the planet today will be molding into slimy gunk, period end of story make life what you want it to be and stop being afraid of everything. Oh and War Damn Eagle Go Auburn!!!!
